hello.
welcome to my blog

Hello. I find beauty in the thing that you most necessarily don't. If you don't like what I have to say, please leave.

A Frame of Passion
Jul 20, 2014

Hello, long update this time. As promised, here's what went down last week. Han Chiang College Senior Broadcasting & Broadcast Journalism Class of 2014 had their final project, a grand premiere at PenangPAC (Penang Performing Arts Centre) on the 16th of July 2014. It was opened to the public to showcase our productions for this year. There are way more pictures than I'm uploading right now but I haven't got the rest as they're all in the DSLRs of the photographers on ground and they haven't uploaded it yet.

So the theme we decided on was 'A Frame of Passion' and it was pretty much a big hit :)

A Frame of Passion Booklet

So, remember in my previous post I said i hadn't slept for a good 48-72 hours or somewhere in between? Well, my darlings and I had been editing for a good 3 days a production meant for this particular screening. Below are the pictures mid edit.

Our programme was that of the supernatural kind so naturally, we'd take a thermal shot to look like ghosts *grin*

However, with all that sacrifice came a wonderful production that all of us are very very proud of. As an editor and the producer for our production team, this is all you can ever ask for.

Final timeline of our programme. It really is a sight to behold with pride and joy

Not much to say on the Premiere except we've had nothing but good comments for my productions and those that weren't good were constructive. I honestly could not have been happier that day.

Getting ready to greet the audience. Pre-show selfie with whoever could fit! We have about 50 students on whole. Not exactly a good idea to have that big a batch of crazies in production *silent laughter*

The Forever Fours

Been through thick and thin with these girls throughout these two and a half years. All the stress has finally paid off. We're graduating soon girls, but here's to being friends for life :)

The Gangster Gang *sly grin*

One with the boys. I will miss their antics.
Well, here's to hoping we'll have time to meet up once we're all in KL doing what we love to do

Prolly one of the MOST awesome lecturers you could ever meet, not even kidding. Couldn't have achieved all that we did this year without his guidance and advice. His face was just beaming with pride for this year's batch of Seniors, HIS students and we're proud to be so too.

Well, so far the excitement has simmered down. Just been hanging out with the gang as much as possible before we all scoot next week. So blessed to have met a bunch of friends who are as open as I am. Here's to hoping and praying we'll be friends for a very very very long time.

Sooo, I kinda dyed my hair again. The colour was fading and getting a bit disgusting so it was about time to whip out the dye.

The before and after. Went a darker, more vibrant shade this time. I'm liking it a lot, I think I'll stick to this colour for a very long while

The brand of dye I'm using is Manic Panic in Atomic Turquoise. Difficult to find around where I stay but I did manage to find a supplier who sells it kinda cheap. For those of you wondering how I dyed my hair it fairly simple.

I don't use a lot of dye cause it kinda damages the hair. I tend to mix the dye with conditioner (any type will do as long as it's white) so it distributes more evenly at the same time, conditions it so that it doesn't spoil as easy I guess? Just mix the dye according to how intense you want the colour to be on your hair.

Most people mix in condition to get a most pastel colour but that doesn't necessarily apply. It all depends on how much dye you put in. For this batch, I mixed in a little more colour than I did the last time and the colour came out as above.

Application is pretty simple. Make sure you're wearing gloves cause it does stain. Just apply it to whichever part of your hair you want coloured and leave it on for about an hour. Applying a little bit of heat helps to keep the colour longer lasting.

Wash it out until the water is clear, shampoo and condition it once and you're done. I use colour shampoo for the first wash and a colour mask after. The colour usually lasts about a month before it starts to get really disgusting, but that also depends on how you take care of it.

Ta-da! Oh, do ignore the messy room and the very many pimples on my face. Post-edit cum pre-exam stress.

Well, I think I've said enough for now. Loads of productions that I've done this year that I really wanna share. Will prolly screenshot a few to put up here.

Updates on my productions next.

Production Day Blues
Jul 15, 2014

Trying to get into the habit of blogging more so as not to lose my hand in writing since I'll be out of the shit hole I refer to as college in less than a week.

Had an editing marathon with my girls this past weekend. 48 hours of non stop editing of our final production. Between the 3 of us, we only caught prolly about 5 or so hours of sleep, maybe less.

BUT, it all paid off. Our production was chosen as the top 3 to screen during our Grand Premiere Night. Pretty satisfied with the outcome, just a few minor tweaks and its good to cut. I love producing but dang, it's tiring. I do, however, think that I'd be happy with doing this for a good 30 years or more :)

On a completely unrelated note whatsoever, I swear, today feels like it was piss-lyn-the-fuck-off day. People have been pissing me off left, right and center. GOD.

I shall now go and hibernate in a mini coma for about 10 hours, or at least until it's Tuesday morning where I'm at.

Updates on the Grand Premiere soon, I promise!

P.S My face is breaking out so badly due to the lack of sleep and stress and what not. No idea how I'm going to cover it all up on Wednesday for Front of House duties during screening.

Current mood: hyperactive exhaustion

New Beginnings
Jul 11, 2014

Wow, it has actually been a year and a half (almost) of not blogging. A lot has happened since. Here's a quick recap of what's been going on this past year and a half;
  1. I've seen a lot of movies, too many to really get into a breakdown of reviews
  2. Read a heap of books [sidenote*: Fifty Shades is awesome *swoon*]
  3. Attended yet another Penang Island Jazz Festival as yet again, part of the crew
  4. Got to meet Casey Abrams in the flesh! [he has realllly fluffy hair]
  5. Did a little part-time job as an Apple products salesperson
  6. Went for a 3-month long internship programme at Media Prima, one of Malaysia's leading media companies, as part of the 8tv Quickie team [so much to talk about]
  7. Head of the Music Department for a college music society
  8. Emcee-ed countless amounts of events for the college
  9. Started an acapella group in college
  10. Started self-learning Italian
  11. Dip-dyed my hair :)
  12. Took part in a local short film competition and was shortlisted as one of the top 6 Finalists
  13. Taking on the role of Studio Director and Producer in our students films and college news broadcasts
  14. I'm graduating in 3 weeks!
Since the year started, it's been a non-stop whirlwind of writing scripts, research papers, editing countless number of videos (cause not only do I take on the role of producer, I also love to edit), arranging shoots and Lord, so much more I can't even remember. It's basically all been a blur and the realisation is just starting to hit that after the 23rd of July 2014, I will officially be over and done with my Diploma.

Looking forward to some much needed rest after being on-the-go for so long. Time to recharge and clear my head to get some fresh ideas. Don't know where I'll be headed next but I've got 8 months to figure it all out. For now, I'm content with the idea of doing nothing for awhile.

Oh, before I forget, do check out the short documentary that I submitted for the short film competition I was telling y'all about. Just a little trivia, there were about 100 over submissions and my college (Han Chiang College) had 6 groups of students who submitted their entries. See, the only reason we took part in this was because it was part of our assignment. Any who, out of the top 6 Finalists who were short listed for our category, 4 of the 6 finalists consisted of the students from our college. how freaking cool is that?!

The pride burns deep within all of us, more so for the lecturer who gave us the assignment in the first place. So, do check out my video as well as the others from my college, the titles which I will list down further below.

Movie Reviews cum Updates
Feb 5, 2013

It's been forever yes I know. Even I've lost track of the number of movies I've seen. I'll start with the few recents that I can remember. Just short what-I-think review this time. I'm just really lazy and couldn't really be bothered to go on and on about them.

I. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Its was good. A minute let down to be honest from what I expected with all the hype but still nevertheless, good. First part of the three movies they split the book into. As always, the graphics are amazing. If you haven't already seen it, go. If you're wondering how good it is, I held my pee in for 3 hours even though I had to pee REALLY BADLY at the beginning of the movie. So... yeah. Go figure
Rating: 4.5/5

II. Les Miserables

Best damn movie musical I've seen in a very very VERY long time. 'Nuff said. I thought Russel Crowe did quite well. 'Bring Him Home' was slightly murdered by Hugh Jackman (I'm sorry, it was just awful) but he was still okay though his singing just deteriorated throughout the movie I feel. Samantha Barks was awesome and Anne Hathaway was just simply outstanding for a supporting actress role. Overall kickass movie. Recommended for everyone even if you're not a musical fan.
Rating: 5/5

III. Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters

Was pretty good. It's gory with the blood and the shooting and what-nots but pretty okay movie. Thought it was good even though everyone's giving it bad reviews. But I do agree that they just need to stop remaking movies or doing spin-offs of classic childrens tales. Just, please. STOP. Hansel and Gretel were pretty bad-ass in the movie. Edward the troll is so cute. It's an okay movie to catch if you're bored and have nothing better to do but I wouldn't watch it again unless I really had nothing better to do.
Rating: 3.5/5

IV. Life of Pi

Very insightful movie about life and growing up. Touches a bit on religion so just to let those of you know if you plan on watching it and are a little sensitive on the issue. I thought it was pretty slow moving but it's got a really good storyline. Very well thought out. Not sure if it differs from the book much cause I haven't read it yet. Good in my opinion but nothing to hoot about.
Rating: 4/5

Just started college a couple weeks back and it's an honest hell. I sometimes find myself regretting going to the college that I chose but then again, the facilities and the courses offered are to my liking. Dilemmas of a college student. Would definitely be easier if the majority percentage of the people there weren't chinese school students who only converse in mandarin but well, it is a chinese college after all.  Just wish they would understand and converse in english when I'm actually there. Well, another year and a half and I'M OUT!

'Til the next time I find something new to blog about.

P.S For those celebrating Chinese New Year, a Happy Chinese New Year to you! :)
P.P.S Found some new awesome songs to add to the playlist. I might share. Or not ;)

The Temporary Hiatus
Dec 17, 2012

I'm blogging because I have to. Well, no I don't but you get the point. Beginning to see why I stopped in the first place. Just a really short update. Boyfriend found out about the blog. *hmph* I know I said I wouldn't be that person but I'm compelled to now. See sweetheart, the things I do for love.

Been super busy these past couple weeks with the Jazz Fest (which was insanely awesome by the way, you're losers if you missed it), final assignments and prepping for my finals, the latter of the three I did not so much of.

Insomnia is a bitch. That, doubled with the deliciousness of Starbuck's Toffee Nut Latte has resulted in me being awake for this:

The view of the sunrise from my bedroom window. No edits whatsoever. Just the plain simple sunrise. Just bliss

Ain't that just soo pretty? Like, how can you sleep after seeing something as pretty as that? I was about to then I noticed it and I told myself not to give two shits about it and I didn't listen to myself. So now I'm blogging while cramming for my paper later and waiting for my water to boil for my coffee. Well, I've got updates to update about but for now, be contented with this as I'm off to go make coffee and stuff theories into my brain which I am probably NEVER going to use in the practicality of this profession. Cheers! xx

P.S Sweetie, if you're reading this and I know you are, I love you and don't yell at me for not sleeping kay thanks byeee :*

Penang Island Jazz Festival 9th Edition
Nov 30, 2012

Hi everyone! I am beyond excited. It is finally here. For those of you who don't know what this epic event I've been waiting for is, it's the Penang Island Jazz Festival! Jazz music is just.. :)

I know, I sound too old to be 18 but what can I say, I'm in that special group of teens in my generation who listens to this genre of music and don't go to clubs and bla bla bla. Well, anyways, for those of you who're hearing about this for the first time, here's the pamphlet and promo video. Enjoy!

Doesn't it just make you want to get your carcass over to Penang Island and chillax near the beach to the grooves of different jazz styles? With a mixture of both international and local jazz acts, the audience gets the best of both worlds. For more information, visit 9th Penang Island Jazz Festival for details and ticket purchasing. See you there! Peace and love all ;)

Cheers! xx
